FACS stands for Facial Action Coding System. This system breaks down facial expressions into their individual muscle groups. These individual movements are called Action Units. This concept lends itself exceedingly well to motion capture, allowing face rigs to create the subtleties of a human expression. 
This rig is using 96 face joints for facial deformation. It uses Set Driven Keys to drive the joint positions.
